You Feel Different

Do you sometimes feel like your body has a “fullness” to it, that you are holding too much of something in your body, it feels uncomfortable, out of place and you can’t explain what it is? You could be holding too much energy in your body and I’m not talking about positive, happy energy but the kind which leaves you feeling drained, anxious and tired.

You might feel complete overwhelm and your body goes into survival mode as you try and make sense of what is going on with you. You feel different, like everything is too difficult or little things feel like major issues.

This happens to more people than you can imagine – especially sensitives and empaths, due to your unique energetic make up, your energetic boundaries are thin and open, which can lead to you taking on other peoples emotions.

Negative energy could also be attached to objects like heirlooms or can be felt more in one room of a house than another. In some cases, negative energy could also be caused by spiritual presences. If this is the case, you can take steps to clear your objects and home by using some of what I suggest in my tips below. You can also ask a Healer to help you clear negative energy from your home.

Today we are mainly talking about negative energy held in the body.

I’m sharing these tips with you because not many people know that they are taking on or holding residual negative energy in their bodies. You might simply leave this energy to build up because you are unsure how to deal with it and gradually you feel more unwell and more disconnected from yourself.

We Share Energy With Each Other

Our world is filled with people sharing their energy and each of those people have their own intentions and people’s intentions can be positive or negative.

These people might be a loved one or friend and you can’t necessarily remove the person from your life so the best way to remove negativity is to protect and clear yourself. You can change what’s going on inside you.

If you are are sensitive to other people’s feelings and thoughts, you are more likely to take on other people’s energy.

Negative energy will always seek the light. It wants to be transformed and the brighter your inner light, the more likely you are to attract negative energy.

Being sensitive to other people’s emotions and emphatic is also a gift. You are very intuitive and creative. People love talking to you as you easily empathise with and listen to them. You are quick to assess a situation emotionally and you know instantly what people feel without even having to talk to them. You have a super high emotional intelligence and are able to intuitively help people with their life challenges.

Your Energy Body

natali-brown-aura-bodyTo be able to draw on your strengths as an empath or sensitive it is important to know that you can learn how to protect and clear yourself. Your energy needs special care and when you learn to strengthen and cleanse your energy, you will be in a better position to deal with negative energy and overall feel better and have more energy yourself.

Your energy system consists of your energy body which is called your “Aura” and the main energy centres which are called “Chakras“. Your aura is egg shaped around your body and protects your energy field by creating an energetic “shield” between you and other people’s energy. If it is vibrant, colourful and strong, you will feel energised and ready to take on anything which comes your way.

The energetic centers in your body give life force energy to the surrounding organs and keep you healthy and strong if they are clear and without energetic blocks.

If you are easily energetically overwhelmed, you might have an imbalance in your chakras – mainly in the root chakra, which is located at the end of the spine and which connects you to the Earth. If this chakra is energetically weak, you often feel ungrounded, sometimes even “spaced out” and this can lead easily to energetic overwhelm by not inhabiting your body fully.

The good news is that with a few simple cleansing methods, you can learn to easily strengthen and protect your energy field, making you more resilient to other people’s energies.

You will become energetically stronger and will have more energy to enjoy your life and do the things you love.

I’m an intuitive and have always been highly sensitive to people’s emotions. Before I knew how to protect and clear myself, I used to walk around like a sponge literally sucking up people’s energy like water, which left me feeling like a completely different person most days.

Over the last year especially doing energy work as a Reiki Healer, I had to learn how to clear my energy on a regular basis.  I’ve really learned what works well for me and it’s now part of my daily/weekly routine.

Tips For Clearing And Protecting Your Energy

So these tips have been tried and tested and I know they work:

ONE: Spend Time in Nature

There is nothing better than fresh air, sunshine and the sea to clear away negative energy.  All around you, and throughout the entire universe, circulates life energy.

It exists not only as an energy field around every living thing, but also circulates through the earth, through the atmosphere around us and throughout nature.

The flow of this energy connects everything that exists, and you, as a living being, are taking in this energy at every moment. You are always drawing this life energy into your own energy field, and it is this energy that supports your life.

When you visualise nature’s energy to surround you, you direct the energy with effortless intention to help you clear and heal your energy.

  1. Wind and Sun – Stand outside and feel the wind and sun on your face. Feel the power of the wind which surrounds you and visualise sending all negative energy in your body to be carried away with the wind. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face and visualise it energising each cell in your body.
  2. The Ocean – The sea is a powerful energy cleanser and the salt from the sea has an amazing ability to absorb negative energy. Go for a swim in the sea or stand with your feet in the waves and visualise it washing away any negative energy. Imagine the negative energy going out to sea and leaving you pure and cleansed once again.
  3. Walk Barefoot In Nature – The root chakra which is located at the end of your spine and connects you into the Earth gives you a feeling of safety and protection when it’s energetically strong. The quickest and easiest way to strengthen it is to simply take off your shoes and walk barefoot on the Earth. By connecting with the earth and imagining your “roots” connecting with the centre of the earth, it helps you feel grounded and able to fight off negative energies.

TWO: Using Your Breath

Deep breathing helps you let go of residual energy held within your body. Start by taking deep, mindful breaths and feel how your breath moves the energy around your body. Imagine breathing in positive energy and breathing out any negative energy. Breathing is part of the life force which energises our body and helps oxygen flow to our organs to keep them healthy.

Have you ever felt like yawning? Go for it! I often yawn during a Reiki session or after a Reiki session , not because I’m bored but I’m actually releasing energy. Yawning is the body’s natural reaction to letting go – it also helps us bring more oxygen into the blood and move more carbon dioxide out of the blood.

THREE: Dance To Call In Your Joy

Put on your favourite song and shake your body like no one’s watching. I love dancing and singing as it helps release feel good endorphins which makes me feel positive and uplifted once again. Whilst dancing imagine shaking off any negative energy and feel positive, joyful energy flood your body.

Music stimulates the brain’s reward centers, while dance stimulates the release of endorphins and gives us a natural high in addition to increasing our metabolism and blood flow, so it’s great exercise too.

Dancing helps bring joy to you and sends positive vibrations out to the universe, it also helps to raise your energy vibration. When you dance you feel an “aliveness” in your soul and when you are in this state of joy you are able to attract a steady reality of positivity.

FOUR: Use Sound To Dispel Negative Energy

natali-brown-tibetan-bowlSound is transformational and healing on so many levels. I have a Shanti Bowl which I use during meditation. I absolutely love it as it produces beautiful harmonic music which invokes a deep meditative and peaceful state. These “singing” bowls help balance the body’s chakras, eliminate stress and promote holistic healing.

You can also listen to music which helps purify and cleanse your energy – playing high vibration music can help dispel negative energy and bring change in our energy bodies and around our home.

FIVE: Bring Light Into Your Life

natali-brown-candleI love using candles, they smell gorgeous and create a warm, soothing ambiance. You can also use candles to clear your energy.

Light a white candle and set your intention to protect and clear your energy by saying “I dedicate this candle to the light and ask for protection to surround me” – imagine the light of the candle surrounding you and allow your Angels and Guides to surround you with protection. Your intention is to burn away any negative energy. Looking at it, declare your intention to have all negative energy enter the flame. On a piece of paper, write words for clearing negative energies. Something like “I now release, burn and clear everything negative affecting my health …. my life …. my energy”. Make sure you throw away the piece of paper – the act of throwing it away means you are letting go of the negative energy.

SIX: Use Essential Oils & Incense

I love using incense around my home however some people find it difficult to tolerate the smell of a smudge sticks or incense so diffusing essential oils and making a “smudge blend” could be a great alternative. I’ve come to love using essential oils and use them around my home to cleanse, uplift, calm and heal my home and my family. Here are some of my favourite oils to help clear and uplift – you can grab yours here.

Most essential oils will have an effect on our emotions. They are inhaled and quickly pass through our nasal passages to the smell sensory reception nerves.

SEVEN: Crystals For Positive Energy Flow

I’ve lost count of how many crystals I have in my house. I absolutely love them and use them regularly to boost my energy. All crystals have their own unique properties to help boost or clear energy in many different ways.

I especially love amethyst, it’s beautiful and helps protect me against negative energy and psychic attacks. Obsidian is a very powerful crystal – it will seek to purify negative energy in its vicinity, also within the aura, making this a very useful stone. Always cleanse your crystals on a regular basis to get rid of any negative energy absorbed.

EIGHT: Himalayan Salt Lamps And Salt Baths

natali-brown-salt-lampHimalayan Salt is the most beneficial, cleanest salt on the planet. It was formed about 250 million years ago and originates from a time when the earth was absolutely pristine and without any environmental impact. It absorbs water and particles from the air and takes on positive ions with them. Then, when the heated salt releases cleansed water vapor back into the air it helps to expel negative ions. As a powerful crystal for both psychic protection and cleansing dark energy, Pink Himalayan Salt is an affordable and easy-to-use solution for getting rid of heavy energy that’s weighing you down.

It is also known to purify, cleanse & deodorise the air, increases energy levels, reduce allergy and asthma, reduces stress but most of all it neutralises electromagnetic radiation from electronic devices.

There is nothing better than having a long soak in the bath after a hectic day. If you don’t have Himalayan Salt Bath Crystals, use pure sea salt and soak in a relaxing salt bath. Salt will purify you and remove negative energies from your body. 

Here is my special bath soak to help release negative energy:


  • Add to running warm water in your bath.
  • 1 to 2 cups of Himalayan salt crystals or Sea Salt. Ensure the salt fully dissolves before getting into the water.
  • 2 to 3 drops each of frankincense, geranium, lavender and sandalwood.
  • Soak for at least 20 minutes if you can. Enjoy!

NINE: Waterfall Energy

natali-brown-waterfallOne of the quickest ways I cleanse my energy is to use “waterfall energy”. Simply visualise standing under a waterfall and feel the water cleanse any negative energy. I also “paint” my main entrance to my house with waterfall energy to ensure anyone who walks into my home is “washed clean”.

TEN: Smudging with Sage

snatali-brown-moke-incenseWhite Sage has been used for purification and cleansing for centuries. Smudging your sacred space, your home or office, or even your body with sage is like taking an energetic shower, or doing a deep metaphysical cleansing.




How To Protect Yourself

Visualise a Protective Shield Around You

Do this visualisation when you work with or are around people all the time, you are about to go into a particularly stressful situation or simply to increase your energetic and emotional resilience over time.

  • Close your eyes
  • Try and feel or sense your aura (it might be hard to do in the beginning but after a little practice it will become easier).
  • Try and sense where your energetic boundaries end. Your aura could be open quite wide or much closer to your body.
  • Imagine stretching your energetic boundaries outward a few centimeters around your body.
  • When you feel or sense it, visualise the energy around your body as a dense column of bright white light or the colour blue or purple as a protective wall or shield. I find purple works really well for me.
  • Go with your instincts and choose what feels right for you.
  • After a bit of practice you should be able to immediately visualise the colour around you so that you can quickly protect your energy field.
  • Finish off by ask your Guides, Angels and the Universe to surround you with protection now and always.
