Travel Vaccinations & Altitude Sickness
We have incredible local guides who will take care of us during the retreat and who will provide us with local teas and herbs which will help to reduce altitude sickness. Please read more about the symptoms of altitude sickness which may include headaches, vomiting, tiredness, trouble sleeping or dizziness.
We suggest you consult with your doctor to check which travel vaccinations you might need and to get the correct medication to take with you for altitude sickness.
Travel Insurance
Please ensure you have full travel insurance which will cover you for all medical emergencies and medical evacuation during your stay in Peru.
Local Currency, Credit Cards, ATMs, Tipping
The Peruvian Sol is the currency of Peru.
Most restaurant and bar bills include a 10% gratuity. It’s customary to add an extra 10% if the service has been satisfactory. Most Peruvians only tip one or two Soles at small “mom and pop” restaurants that do not add a tip to the bill.
Here is a useful guide on money use, ATMs and fees in Peru. We suggest you let your bank know you are travelling to Peru to avoid them blocking your card. Also arrange to have some Peruvian Sol in cash upon arrival however you can draw more cash at local ATMs.
